Rebecca Fox was a successful woman, she owned a clothing company which specialized in Gothic styles. Rebecca was content with her life; she was young and attracted many suitors. She never really settled down however, mainly due to the fact she was dark and intimidating to men. It was due to her personality and clothing company that she attracted Hades. So Hades approached her, he loved everything about her almost instantly. After a few months of them just being friends, they decided to become a couple. Rebecca had never been so happy; she soon fell deeply in love with Hades, not knowing that he was a Greek God. Soon Rebecca fell pregnant, Rebecca was ecstatic about this news.
Hades however knew that he had to leave soon and, with great sadness that's what he did soon later. Hades knew he couldn't tell Rebecca who he really was, it would be too much for her to handle. Rebecca was heartbroken, as much as she didn't want to be left with a child, she still kept it. Nine months later, Matthew was born on October 31st (so cliché I know). For the first year or so, Rebecca was fine with Matthew. She loved her son dearly and spoiled him with gifts. But after that, Rebecca slowly started to break down.
The stress of her business and a baby was too much for her, and she ended up selling the business to the manager. Rebecca did this in an attempt to spend more time with Matthew but it didn't work out so well. By the time Matthew was 7; Rebecca had hardly any form of income and had turned to alcohol for comfort. Matthew was smart enough to understand the changes in his mother and usually stayed in his room, away from his drunken mother.
When Matthew went into secondary school, he was severely bullied. Matthew was picked on for the way he dressed (which was usually second hand clothes due to his lack of money) or the fact he had a stutter which he very slowly got over. After one year of being at secondary school, when he was about 12, a Harpy attacked him whilst he was walking home. Matthew had no idea what was going on and was almost killed. Luckily he was saved by a Satyr.
The Satyr called Clayton explained to Matthew as much as he could about the Greek Gods and camp. Matthew refused to go to camp; he couldn't leave his mother in the state she was in. Clayton sighed but promised Matthew that he'd stay at school with him, at least till he was ready. Clayton and Matthew soon became close friends, Matthew's only friend come to think of it.
Rebecca slowly became worse, her alcohol addiction slowly overtaking her life. Rebecca would constantly yell and swear at Matthew, blaming him for Hades leaving and the way her life turned out. Matthew had to endure this along with a few monster attacks, only having Clayton helping with these problems. Once Matthew was 15, he got attacked at his home this time. Matthew had no Clayton with him though, just his mother.
Matthew luckily had a sword that Clayton had given him but the monster was too quick. It lunged straight for him but suddenly Rebecca stepped in front of Matthew. She didn't know it was a monster, she just thought it was a burglar, holding a gun. The monster ended up throwing Rebecca across the room and into a glass table, where she laid unconscious.
Matthew was filled with so much anger and rage that he charged to the monster and managed to destroy it. Matthew ran to Rebecca and quickly took her to a hospital. Once she was sorted out and awake in her hospital bed, Matthew told her everything he knew about the Greek Gods and such. Rebecca slowly began to believe him when Clayton came to the hospital and backed Matthew up. Rebecca felt ashamed in herself that the reason Matthew was attacked often, was because he wanted to look after her.
Rebecca promised she'd give up drinking for him and told him he should go to camp. So Matthew went to camp with Clayton for a year but went back home as he missed and wanted to see Rebecca's progress. Rebecca had finally got over her alcohol addiction and was now working in a clothes shop. Matthew stayed with her for another year till he got attacked again, so seeing that Rebecca was doing well and knowing it was too dangerous for him to stay with her, he went back to camp.
Children of Hades can cause someone to feel as if they are trapped in a coffin for a short time, unable to move, however while the user is maintaining the hold, they themselves also can't move to attack
Children of Hades have the ability to summon a large group of undead, about ten, which can then be controlled by the mind of their summoner; the longer they are summoned, the more the summoner is drained.
Matthew is shy and usually likes to keep to himself. He doesn't trust people too easily and is very modest about things. Matthew is a good person to have as a friend as he keeps secrets well and is pretty trustworthy. Matthew also has a huge obsession with Pugs and Pokémon, he'd be your best friend if you like those things.
He also used to have a stutter, something of which he slowly got over but it can happen again if he gets nervous. Matthew also fails with things like relationships as he's never actually been in one.
